All About Specialty Care

Model of Care

At JPPC we offer a model of care that few others are able to replicate. We are an in-home and small scale dog boarding facility with three team members available to provide individualized attention to our canine guests. This structure enables us to provide customized care to meet your pets’ specific needs, while maintaining a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable environment for your pup.

Separate Care and Careful Handling

We happily care for dogs with behavioral concerns that many other boarding facilities may exclude. We also don’t believe in breed bans, especially when they are often put in place regardless of a dogs individual history. If your pup is dog or human reactive (or selective), or shows aggression towards animals and/or people, we work with you to provide a safe and secure boarding experience.

If your dog is not friendly with other dogs they can be on our “separate care” plan, which is completely separate from other dogs. They won’t play with, interact with, or see any other dogs during their stay. We also do our best to avoid any sound triggers by playing music or white noise. Dogs on separate care still enjoy lots of one on one time with their caregiver.

If your pup struggles with meeting new people they can be with a single dedicated caregiver, rather than meeting all three of us, and will automatically be on separate care from other dogs. We do accept dogs with bite histories and take extra precaution to prevent incidents while in our care. Our whole team is well trained in smart and minimal handling, dog body language, and behavior management. This helps us to avoid upsetting a fearful or aggressive dog to begin with and drastically minimizes any possibility for incidents. As long as your dog can be safely taken care of, we would love to host them.

Getting to Know Your Dog

For dogs who are selective, human reactive, human aggressive, or just plain shy or fearful, we start with short interactions, such as an off-site meeting. If your pup is up for a quick drop off, we can proceed to a practice daycare visit (2-10 hours) before the boarding visit. We may require more than one daycare session. This helps us better get to know your dog and build mutual comfort, as well as to make plans for their full length stay. We find that after these sessions, the pup is more confident and relaxed when they arrive for boarding. In fact, these daycare sessions are so beneficial that we recommend it to all of our clients and require them for most!

Medical Needs or Post Surgery

If your dog has advanced health needs, check with us ahead of time to ensure we can accommodate them. We have experience caring for deaf or blind pups, dogs who require subcutaneous fluids or time sensitive medications, those who need careful observation and treatment for seizures or onset of Addison’s crisis, and so much more. For any post surgery pups we are experienced in follow up care, and can provide crate rest if needed.

Diet and Mobility

We feed what you provide, including your dog’s usual diet and any medication or supplements needed. We can accommodate frequent potty schedules with advanced notice (per our intake form). For dogs with mobility issues, we do not have stairs in the house and the backyard is accessible. Inside the home, we provide yoga mat pathways for pups who have a hard time with slippery floors, and prioritize our living room for them where there is a large rug available. We can also provide ramps or stairs up to the couch to prevent jumping when needed.
