Frequently Asked Questions

  • Depending on their individual needs, your dog could be solo or in a group with 1-2 other dogs. We watch an average of 6 dogs per night. The maximum number of dogs per night depends on the dogs themselves, and ranges from 3 (each with a separate caregiver), to 9 (each in a trio with their assigned human). An exact number of dogs on specific dates cannot be provided due to last minute bookings and cancellations.

Often dogs are split into 2 or 3 groups based on size, temperament, play style, and much more. Groups are supervised at all times when together. Our team consists of 3 people so our ratios are fantastic for small groups, and this allows us to focus on giving extra attention to solo dogs or to keep a careful eye on interactions between dogs in a group. We rarely host groups larger than 3 dogs, and if we do there is always multiple team members present to supervise. This only occurs with returning clients we know well when we think all dogs involved will truly benefit from and enjoy a larger group.

  • JPPC is insured by PCI (Pet Care Insurance) and all team members are bonded and insured as well. We are a registered LLC and are incorporated with the Washington Secretary of State as well as licensed to do business in Washington. All three of us are certified in Pet CPR and First Aid with recent and ongoing training. Rebecca is in the process of becoming an ABD Certified Canine Behavior Counselor (CCBC) and Valerie is in the process of becoming a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT).

  • Unfortunately tours are not available for a few reasons. Firstly, we board dogs in our home, and while we welcome these pups, we cannot permit access to owners as that would impose on the privacy of our team who live here. Secondly, our insurance does not cover unauthorized personnel.

This means that as owners you cannot come inside, however you do have the peace of mind knowing that no other owners are allowed in while we are watching your dog, and that your dog won't meet any strangers. The only authorized people on our insurance are Rebecca, Valerie, and Rachel.

  • If you would like your dog to meet our team, we can do a practice daycare or single overnight stay at a discounted rate. A paid booking allows your dog to be covered by insurance and come on site. Both of these services include us meeting each other and having a chance to chat briefly. After that we’ll welcome your dog inside to meet the family and if time allows and the new dog is calm, we can slowly introduce them to a neutral dog with two team members present. We also take this chance to allow your pup to become comfortable with our home, spend time in common areas, have a little quiet time to ensure they can settle, and know they will do well during their stay. Rebecca will also send updates throughout their visit.

Please note practice daycare or overnight availability depends on our current booking capacity. We can only offer these discounted services when at less than 75% capacity in order to avoid taking time away from the dogs in our care when things are busy.

If your dog needs more than a few minutes to be comfortable with a new person we can schedule a 30 minute or 60 minute meeting off site to meet and slowly introduce your dog to one of us. If it goes well, that person can be their dedicated caretaker during their stay. These sessions are only available by request and are not interchangeable with a practice daycare, but may be a good option for a cautious or anxious dog. An off site meeting does not reserve booking dates, and does not guarantee availability for the dates requested.

  • We do not require dogs to be friendly! As long as we can safely handle them to care for their needs, we allow them to board. We are a cat and child free environment so neither of those are an issue. We also rarely have men in the home, so dogs with a fear of males can be comfortable. In the case of some of our service providers (think landscapers, a contractor, etc) we avoid crossing paths between dogs and non JPPC staff. As far as friendliness with other dogs, your pup is not required to make furry friends during their time with us, just let us know in the intake form or via message that you would not like them introduced to any dogs and we will oblige.

One of our specialties is separate care, where your pup can spend their time with one of us away from all other dogs. We also ensure careful handling for dogs who need extra time to warm up to new people, and can often assign a single caregiver for dogs who prefer one on one interactions.
